Surf Report: 4 ft Southwest Swell at 13-15 Seconds, 65 Degree Water
Today’s surf snapshot from the NOAA buoys off San Diego.
Conditions This Morning
The Mission Bay nearshore buoy is reading 4.6 ft at a clean 15-second period from 225° (southwest). Out at Point Loma South, the offshore buoy shows 3.9 ft at 13 seconds from 218°. That’s a well-spaced southwest swell with real push behind it — surfable size, particularly at south-facing breaks.
Quick Read
- Wave height: 3.9 to 4.6 ft
- Period: 13 to 15 seconds (long, well-spaced)
- Direction: 218° to 225° (southwest)
- Water temp: 65°F to 67°F (18°C to 20°C)
What This Means
A 13 to 15 second southwest swell is the kind of energy that lights up Sunset Cliffs, Black’s Beach, Windansea, and the other south-facing breaks. Wind is light from the southwest per the NWS forecast — that’s a mild onshore, but at 5 to 10 mph it’s not going to wreck conditions for a morning session.
Patchy fog before 11am, so visibility could be limited at the coast early. Water temp in the mid-60s — comfortable in a 3/2 or even short arms.
