Look Out San Diego accepts advertising to support our mission of providing free, independent, community-first news to San Diego. This policy governs all advertising on our platform.
What We Accept
- Local San Diego businesses, restaurants, shops, and services
- Regional and national brands relevant to San Diego readers
- Nonprofits and community organizations
- Events, concerts, and entertainment
- Real estate (residential and commercial)
- Job listings from legitimate employers
- Educational institutions
What We Do Not Accept
- Tobacco, vaping, or e-cigarette advertising
- Advertising targeting minors in age-restricted categories
- Deceptive, misleading, or fraudulent advertising
- Advertising for businesses under active regulatory action or legal injunctions
- Political campaign advertising (candidates for office)
- Advertising designed to resemble editorial content without clear disclosure
- Content that violates our community standards or promotes hate or violence
Editorial Independence
Purchasing advertising does not influence editorial coverage. Advertisers receive no special consideration, favorable coverage, or editorial access that non-advertisers don’t receive. All advertising relationships are disclosed in accordance with our Affiliate Disclosure policy.
Ad Labeling
All paid advertising is clearly labeled. Display ads managed by Google AdSense are labeled “Ad” per Google’s policies. Sponsored content, newsletter sponsorships, and paid placements are labeled “Sponsored” or “Paid Placement.”
